Interesting comments you guys.. Gave me cause to think ~ I can accept the idea that tradition is blinding, but what if it gives comfort at a time of great distress? Tradition & ritual can of course provide comfort and there might be times when it is not appropriate to challenge traditional rituals. At the graveside perhaps..Like how a child is slapped for running or crying? Or how one is made to feel guilty for not crying.? Or how one might want to share what joy and humor the deceased may have wanted to leave behind in spite of the feigned somberness. You mean like that? Tradition is fine for furniture but must be held up for scrutiny by people of goodwill for all else. (IMO)

There is and always will be the proper place to honor traditions, if only to understand our history. You can not see your place in the present or understand the future without acknowledgement of the past. But it shouldn't limit our thinking and progess, nor burden us on the path of enlightenment.

There is and always will be the proper place to honor traditions, if only to understand our history. Yes I suppose. But more often than not it is to comfort, appease, or stroke the ego of, the masses. It is a crutch and a tool used all to often to guide the 'flock' as it were. By learning from our past mistakes, but not perpetuating them to save face or promote an agenda. However, I cannot categorically dismiss all tradition as bad. We should just always strive to not follow it blindly.

Each time I return there is a new aspect to be appreciated. Each time I awaken another story presents itself. How I have ever been bored is beyond me. Lack of imagination I presume. Well, my mind is now wide open and the story this time shall reach out into the cosmos..

Hey Neo..
You made me think of a song lyric by the Yorkshire composer/performer Bill Nelson:-
"Time to quit dreaming and get on the beam.."
