The video for Kate's new single "King Of The Mountain" was premiered on Channel 4, a UK TV station last night.
I love the song but I was personally somewhat disappointed by the video. It's theme appears to be all about Elvis, starting with some floating newspaper headlines about "The King Is Dead" etc.
Then there's this Vegas-style Elvis jumpsuit that sort of comes to life and jumps off the coathangar rail, then floats off and has various encounters with other people, finally meeting some sort of "mountain man". The mountain man and the jumpsuit greet each other like old friends then put their arms over each other's shoulders and wander off happilly up the mountain.
All of this is overlaid or interspersed with shots of Kate in a head & body shot singing the song to camera.
The final shot of the video is the "Rosebud" sledge a la Citizen Kane.
Hmmmmm. I was honestly disappointed in it, and believe me I am a big Kate Bush fan.

You never know that it might not grow on you; but I found enough fodder to feed on for quite a while. There is enough symbolism and allegory to examine for some time to come. Hidden meanings and 'Gabrielesque' special effects gave it a flair that I could enjoy immediately. Then, I assume, with the insight of others here, discover nuances not seen with the initial viewing.

Certainly Al, there's lots of other stuff in the video that I didn't mention (e.g. shots of a sort of mansion interior with lots of classical statues and works of art). All of this deserves analysis and discussion and I look forward to that on this board. I think the thing that really pu me off was the rather "cheap" looking effect of the floating Elvis jumpsuit. It looked rather dated to me, but ah there again perhaps that is deliberate!

It does remind me of the older Gabriel videos like 'Sledgehammer', as I mentioned. Whether that is by design or just fascinating to the director, who knows. The costume being empty though made it work for me.

I was personally somewhat disappointed by the video. I felt exactly the same the first time I heard KOTM on the radio. Now I'm in love with it Give it time

I think the mountain man is an old elvis as he would be now greeting the superficialty of his old life.
and just the joys of childhood being far better than super stardom.
im new here and i made a copy of the video would i get lynched if i posted it here?
