I remember wanting to be an astronaught at one point, LoL ;D I think that was my first career aim... when I was about 6, LoL. I never went through the whole teacher phase though, which I know most of my classmates did. I've had loads of random thoughts though from being tiny to the near future... - life guard
- physiotherapist
- graphics designer
- paramedic
- nurse
- performer (dancer/acrobat)

From the time that I was in elementary school, I wanted to be an architect. I always had a creative, artistic streak and I spent tons of time reading books about different architectural styles and drawing up building plans on my Dad's drafting pad.
Later, when I started college, I had a friend whose father was an architect. I told him I wanted to be an architect too, and he basically said "Oh, you don't want to do that - you really need an engineering degree to suceed in architecture and that would require a lot of math classes" (that was back when the conventional wisdom said "girls don't do math"). I didn't have much self-confidence at that age, so his lack of faith in me was enough to kill my dream.
I ended up getting a MBA instead. The only problem was that I was never able to find a job that held my interest for any length of time. So when I was 30 years old I went back to school and ultimately graduated with a Computer Engineering degree. By then I had long since lost interest in architecture as a career, but it seems a little ironic that I ended up with an engineering degree after having given up my childhood dream because it required one.

As a small girl I wanted to be an American Indian and kill cowboys, then into puberty that changed into wanting to be a stylish groupie but, when it came down to it (pardon the pun) I didnt have the nerve required. Strangely, as an older woman in my mid-forties I now mix with musicians and the 'arty' set but my notion on who is and is not a 'star' now is much more cynical - no-one is up on a pedestal now - we are all human beings with hopes and fears, all that jazz. I still am in total awe though of my all time fav Todd (yeah I've mentioned HIM again) but Todd is Godd! ya know it RA

Todd Rundgren does indeed have it all. Dazzlingly talented as a player but especially as an engineer, I see him as a musician's musician. His work & performances thrill me on a technical level rather than hitting some emotional sweetspot, but there's a lot of his material I've yet to hear.. I saw Todd/Utopia in 1979, as one of the supporting acts on Zeppelin's return to live playing at Knebworth. I was blown away by his set. Prior to this, I'd only ever seen or heard him on the much missed Old Grey Whistle Test The thought of you being a stylish groupie is really quite exciting! All expensive hotel rooms and going through life on your own terms - a lonely existence maybe but certainly much more exciting than being a music teacher, which was what I wanted to be..

Yes but I realised it's like the golf club thread isnt it - wealthy men, young women - all superficial and glitzy with no substance. Life has more to offer (although I must admit its rather dull right now) perhaps I'll go scalp a few cowboys and revisit my original dream career!! In real life btw, I work for a mental health team - does that make you smile ;D - it figures !! Oh ! and the important bit - please click here for Todd's dates - do it do it do it - you won't regret ittrconnection.com/tour/t2005

When I grow up I want to be a... God. Nothing big, you know one of th esmaller dayeties, but with worshipers, powers e.t.c and a really nice temple. Something in white I think.
Either that or a lady of leasure, with a rich husband, maybe Stephen Fry, but with a few million more stashed away.

Has to be "an astronaut, and find Peter Pan", hasn't it?
But actually wanted to be one.. astronaut or a policeman. I never thought I would end up as a project manager...

The first thing I remember wanted to be was Bennie. I was only 5, I had no idea what mohair was, but anyone who wore electric boots MUST have been really keen! (I'm not trying to be funny here--I swear I really wanted to be Bennie!) Then a fashion designer. I still to this day have ideas for my own clothes and aside from Jimmy my teddy bear my Fashion Plates are the only childhood toy I still have. Then I wanted to be Dale Bozzio. Then Kate. Then a music video director so I went to film college. Then I went to college to be a screen or tele writer. Got my degree. Then Gwen Stefani. Now I just want to be me--a mix of all the above things. (But mostly Kate but who designs her own outfits! Tick, tock, tick, tock. Horrible office job, tick tock...

So you wanted to be Bennie? Typical, had to be the star didn't you.. I'd have been quite happy as a Jet - but a male one of course - with one of those Flying V guitars. Still it's not too late for you - "Bennie makes them ageless" you may recall..

I still to this day have ideas for my own clothes and aside from Jimmy my teddy bear my Fashion Plates are the only childhood toy I still have. Guess what? I still have my Fashion Plates too. Want to come over and play sometime, Shee? What film college did you attend? I nearly went to Colombia, but won different scholarship. Went the graphics route instead, but always wished I had followed the film thing. But, some obvious good came out of the school I attended I wanted to be an artist. From the time I could hold a crayon, I was doing something artistic or crafty. The "artist" part has grown, changed, been misunderstood, over-studied, redefined and finally (I hope) reconciled as a career. I realized my inner self really wanted to be.... Martha Stewart... What I'd like to be involved with or do.... film preservation or a film historian.

Wow, Xan, it's sometimes creepy the things we have in common. Yeah, but do you have the blue refill pack? (remember the roller disco chick? ) If we ever meet we MUST play with them while listening to The Red Shoes! I went to Columbia. I will admit Adey, I would love to be in total control of my own songs. However, would prefer to be in a band where I wasn't the only leader, like Outkast or Fleetwood Mac. In fact I was at one point. But of all the guys I might be able to jam with now none of them write songs so I have been kind of shoved into lead. Oh yeah, and I want to design and name the albums covers too. You mean the Jets aren't male? I kind of assumed they were. Maybe I should listen to the lyrics more carefully.
