Just to get into the festive season mood. Christmas! Do you love it or do you think it's just a commercialised holiday where people go into loads of debt? - - - - - Personally, I love it! And no, it's not for the pressies (although they're nice ) I get really excited, not for Christmas day, but just for the whole christmas season. I love to see all the decorations, outdoor lights and christmas trees and stuff, and I also love the fact that although we're a close family to start with, we get even closer during christmas which is really nice. I get dead excited for giving presents that I know the person is really going to love too. People always say that they get into loads of debt during Christmas and end up paying for it all year round which I think is unneccessary. And the way I see it is, if they're going to spoil there children that bad during Christmas, then the chances probably are that they spoil them all year round too. Although I agree there is no need to spend so much money you are in debt all year, I do think Christmas is so overly commercialized that it is almost nearly ruined. I worked retail for years, which meant long hours all through the holidays and I must confess I HATED Christmas then! Now that I work an office job at least I can be with family during the holidays, but I am still soured by the overstimulation of decor, hype and commerce when there are people who would do anything just to have a bowl of rice in other parts of the world.
One cool thing my friends used to do (we have all scattered about the country now) was have a secret Santa where you draw a name and then have to MAKE a gift for the person rather than buy it. I miss that--the love that went into that idea always filled me with the holiday sprit.

Ok, this topic clearly sucked ;D No it didn't suck; the (non)posters did. I love the thought of Xmas more than the actual day, which is usually a bit of a letdown. I love the giving (and the receiving too of course), the trips round the supermarket, agonising over choices of presents etc. Yes, I love the streets, the decorations and outside peoples houses, I drink too much on xmas eve when I meet my friends, and people seem happier. But the actual day always seems a bit flat. Once I've seen my nieces and had a great dinner, its veg out time in front of the James Bond movie. Then I start to feel guilty. Like Sheila, I think of how much I have compared to two thirds of the world, for whom it's just another day to be endured. Then it's that horrible l - o - n - g drag till Easter, and its cold and dark, and the car won't start, and it snows so it takes 3 hours to get home from work, and you've got 2 five week months to get through before your salary is straight again, blah, blah, blah.. And then suddenly November comes and I'm looking forward to it all over again!

Have to agree with you and Sheila there mate. People in retail do get shafted. My mum was a cashier at Safeways for years and she grew to dislike xmas too.
I am sure you all wouldn't mind if you got properly compensated for it; but I know that doesn't happen.

I love the Christmas season. But not NOW! Hey, I just took my tree down like 2 weeks ago. Really. It was up since before Thanksgiving. That's what I mean about being busy.I must really get into Christmas. Hell, that's an understatement.

Which One?! Really? LOL God knows, I can't remember from one year to the next. The independent TV channel network(s) put one on every xmas day, just after the Queen's speech. It's like it's the law or something.

Aww, Pussy Galore! or in Connery dialect "Pushee' ;D Easy one, Goldfinger. How about "My name's Plenty... Plenty O'Toole." "Named after your father perhaps." My holiday fave is On Her Majesty's Secret Service, which is actually my favorite Bond film. You're right, I'm Bond fan too. Hey, Al, how'd you get a cat that moonwalks?! LOL:o ;D
