Last night I found out (the hard way) that one should NEVER press the escape key while composing a message. For some reason that I can't even remember, I did that last night and lost a message I was about to post. I had spent almost 2 hours composing it, so I was QUITE disappointed! It actually wasn't a very long post, but it contained my interpretation of "Get Out of My House" and I was having some trouble putting my thoughts into words. Then when I finally did... POOF!! The really dumb thing is that I have a lot of experience with creating web-based applications and I should have known better. The "Message" box on the "Post Message" page is a form field, and when you press escape while in a form field, it generally causes the field to be cleared of any information you have entered. So I am not reporting this as a problem with how the board functions or anything. Actually, its more like a problem with how I function! Can somebody fix me please? Just hoping this info helps someone else avoid wasting 2 hours.

I wasn't aware of this.. so thanks for the warning! I too have lost work in progress in the past because of carelessness and a dodgy internet link on my old PC. It's always the long posts you lose too..

Just a suggestion, since I write many long posts... I usually compose anything really thoughtful in a word program at my leisure. It's saved and I can write whenever I think while I'm at work, and don't have to be online. Now you know a little secret as to how I can post so much at work.

So you can export a word doc directly onto a blank post? My, you folks aren't half clever. I'm going to have to try that..

I was wondering how you did all that from work without being scrutinized. ;D

However, the good news is that we've got our hooks in you now if you're willing to devote that kind of time and effort here. I (we, I'm sure) appreciate it.

All my posts are done off the cuff and edited on the spot. Ditto. I can't really focus on this stuff unless I'm actually here..

Xanadu has a good idea there (composing longer/more difficult posts using a word processing app then transferring them). I will remember that trick when I am ready to address The Dreaming/GOOMH again. Given that I often have a hard time verbalizing what is in my mind, it would probably work better anyway. Typically, the words are there in abundance until I really want to use them, at which point they leave me. Maybe collecting them elsewhere in bits and peices will help me avoid that problem also.
Yes, AT, although it may not be apparent, you folks definately have your hooks in me! I haven't been posting much this past month (my job has been running my life a little more than usual) but I do check in to read almost every day and I am hoping to spend more time contributing soon. Its very frustrating to be confined to reading when you want to be participating! My consolation is that I have been bookmarking threads and I plan to drag them out and respond to them as time permits. The more I explore these boards, the more I like it here. Lots of interesting people and conversations!
Cya... Sal

Too bad SOG with that message. You must've been kicking yourself But I also recommend Zan's method. When your finished just use the simple cut n paste trick

A ha! I was wondering how you did all that from work without being scrutinized. ;D Well, it helps if you're in charge. ;D But, I do have myself to be accountable to. Imagine if I had this at home. (This is like my second home... I'm here all the da*mn time )

Exactly. I usually check in to read in the morning, and then think about responses while I work, and type here and there, adding ideas. I haven't done it that way in a while, probably a few months, since I have been very busy. But you know the very long ones are written that way and saved. Don't want to lose the time consuming ones like we did a while back when the were moved. I've lost too many posts due to crashes not to take precautions. Just a cut and paste works fine, not too sophisticated.
