Discuss the 'This Woman's Work Volume's I & II' as a whole.

Personally I find it a dirty trick: to put all albums in one box and add the odd tracks which haven't been released at all and give you the choice: buy the lot (and spend a lot) to get your hands on official versions of them, or don't have them officially.... As a relative oldy I have all albums up to HoL on vinyl, and bought all CD's as replacement (well, the turntable is gathering dust somewhere) and I am.. well pretty much peed off about this...

It would be nice to offer them as stand-alones, but I, for one, don't mind. When I finally went, kicking and screaming, to CD, I knew I'd be getting all the Kate CDs so I got them all in one fell swoop by getting the boxed set.
My only nitpick is why did they leave off some tracks (most notably Dreamtime)? And if they knew you could only get TWW I & II with the boxed set, they knew you'd be getting TSW in it, which means they knew you already had "Walk Straight Down the Middle". I don't have anything against the song, but there's no reason, then, to put it there twice!

The box set was my first Kate collection. I was amazing to have it all in one shot... everything having an equal listen.
I was disappointed that with all that packaging, she couldn't have provided more insight on the tracks. And the sleeves in the bonus discs are really bargin... not even the lyrics. Why not comment on the origins of these songs and why they weren't included on the album.
I'd like to know why only those few tracks were ever officially released from Tour of Life. Was she that unhappy with the performances or recordings?

I have said this before, but I ordered the boxed set only after my entire cd collection had been stolen. It was a good reason to get them all back and more. (I've since replaced upward of 400 cd's plus some new ones) At first I was a bit disappointed in the extra material. But as I relaxed and gave them their due attention, all but "Passing Trough Air" stayed in my permanent rotation. I am of the opnion that the bonus tracks should be offered as a two-disc option with added liner notes and remastered quality. So many fans have her other work and may not be able to afford the entire boxed set. Especially since it will be soon no longer 'complete'

Originally the four tracks were from an EP called "On Stage" (see www.antenna.nl/~dinyar/stage/os12com.htm for more detail). Those were the only OFFICIAL tracks released (the soundtrack to Live at Hammersmith Odean wasn't released as a CD until AFTER The Red Shoes - and even then, ONLY as a set with the video!) - hence, TWW II copied what was available commercially at the time of pressing.

Being a ghost, the box set is one of the few things I carry with me while drifting from one place to another. Sometimes I'll stop in a house and play the CDs when no one is around. Kate's voice always makes me feel better. Of course, people tend to react with hysteria to get home and find me using their stereo, but I usually slip away safely in the panic. I like how I can wedge The Red Shoes CD snugly into the top of the box and it fits perfectly. This set is perfect. I hope I never lose it.

Ok --- you're Ruth Gordon reincarnated.... (see Harold and Maude)....she intruded, but stole cars instead of home invading--stay outta my house, boy.

I don't have anything against the song, but there's no reason, then, to put it there twice! Not if you bought the vinyl edition. It's not on the LP of TSW.

I had a question, and I didn't know where to put it. Hope it is the right place. Since I'm a "new" Kate Bush fan I started to get interested in this box set. I've been looking online just for curiosity, and I've seen the box set only in a few sites and it was too expensive, the lowest prize was 250€, second hand of course. For the moment I'm not interested in paying that much, but I was wondering, is it really an understandable high prize since it is a rare article or you can easily find it for much less money? and if the answer is the first option, is it worth it?

Hi Orgone.. Personally, at that price I wouldn't touch it. I know it's a buyer's market, but someone is just taking liberties there. At a time when the major chains like HMV and Virgin are (sadly) knocking out Kate's earlier CDs for £7.00, you could build a whole KB album collection for a quarter of that price you saw. You can get the rarities on the internet. As for the boxed set being rare and therefore potentially valuable, i think that's unlikely. The set might be rare now - in as much as it's hard to buy - but in reality, so many were sold there must be thousands of them out there. Maybe in another 20 years the set will be worth the original purchase price. Actually, I've always managed without the boxed set and I don't believe there is a more devout admirer of KB out there than I. Had it in my hands a few times, but then always put it back on the shelf. If I had bought it, sure Kate would have got a got a cut, but the real profiteers would have been EMI. And they certainly didn't need to have any (more) of my cash. I mean it wasn't even signed for Heaven's sake. Maybe that would have helped justify the price. Particularly as the vast majority of potential customers would have had all the albums anyway.Jeez, now I know I'm getting old - I really do sound just like my Dad..

Thanks for your answer Adey. As I said I'm not interested in buying it, specially because it's too expensive and I've already got most of those cds. I think it's an article only for collectors and I'm far away from being a Kate Bush's collector. Probably it already was expensive the day it came out. However, I think they should have sold the two cds with rare material separately. It would have been a nice gesture for all those Kate Bush's fans who already had her albums. But we all know how the record labels work.

Outrageous!
There were piles of these boxes selling in a store in Amsterdam (Fame) last year for 50 euros!
It must still be possible to buy these somewhere. It could be that this set has been discontinued because a new box set of Kate is planned...
