The title in English is "Don't Fly Away."
The full lyrics can be found in French and English on the Gaffaweb site. I forget most of the English lyrics, but I think it starts; "I come like a cat through the night so black..."

J'ai une question, how much French does Kate speak? Because I thought she like stopped main stream education at sixteen, and therefore could only have got a GCSE (or equivalent) in it, and I certainly could never write, nor translate that with out a lot of thought.
Also, on Gaffa, they have the title as NE T'enfuis Pas, which makes more sense, as "en" in a, as in separate from it, verb doesn't translate well into English. I never could translate it as "Don't Fly Away", though as one word, it works. Though I could be wrong

From what I recall, she knows little or perhaps no French, and had the songs translated for her. I have a tendency to do that with my own lyrics. I have access to German, Italian, Polish, and Bulgarian translators, and intend to use them. (Well never was I really interested in singing in Polish, but the others shall come in handy--especially the German one) Ironic I think really that Peter Gabriel had her sing in French on one of his albums.

Not YET. But it has been a fantasy of mine. And now that I work for a German company I have a couple of translator prospects. I think my harsher lyrics lend themselves to the harsh beauty of the German language. I know French is the language of love, but German kind of turns me on. ZI ANGSTLOS!!!!!! Man, I wish I had access to a Thai translator, that language fascinates me too!

Really? German, really ugly language, in my opinion, now French I could see that, tres nice language.
And, really I always presumed she had written it herself, I don't know why, it's just the type of thing I could easily see Kate doing. She seems the type of person to sit down and think, "I know, I'll write a song it French today".

One of my favorite CDs is a European singer, Zarah Leander, during WWII. She was actually a Swedish actress and singer, but also sang in German, and Hitler was a huge fan. Her voice is strong, sexy and operatic, but also haunted, dark and romantic. The language can really lend itself well... it depends on who's doing the performance. As for Kate, maybe the inspiration doesn't come as easily as we all hoped. It makes her more human to have to work at it a little, doesn't it?

No, French rocks as a language, and the French are cool, if not a little crazy. I think Kate ought to do a more French, there's some in the Phoenix Demos, and in Joanni (I think). But I want to see another couple of French songs.

i only did GCSE french and now i live in Canada and i get by well enough here (although quebecois french is different to france french but dont get me started....lol) and even with that i can 'get' and sing along to this and impress people (with the song not the singing) this is one of those songs that i dont think would work in English like 'infants kiss' which i will play the french one but not the english one as the latter doesnt sound right world.altavista.com/babelfish translator if anyone gets stuck on anything ~ it does a lot of languages but it isnt perfect

Later releases (the French and Canadian singles, The Single File, This Woman's Work) corrected the mistake and remixed the song for good measure.

" Ne t'en fuis pas" really means "don't go away" or "don't escape", it doesn't refer to flight. And "baiser" really is a kiss there and nothing else.
