When rainy nights are soft with tears And Autumn leaves are falling I hear his voice on tumbling waves And no one there to hold me At evening's fall he watched me walk His heart was mine But my love was young, and felt The world was not cruel, but kind Where Lagan's light fell on the hour I saw him far below me Just as the morning calmed the storm With no one there to hold him My loves have come, my loves have gone And nothing's left to warn me Save for a voice on the traveling wind And the glimpse of a face at morning

This is a very special song indeed ! Without instruments...oh her voice is so beautiful ! Hm...can someone explain to me what "lagan" means ? In my big English-German Dictionary I find nothing and in another one they say: "anything sunk in the sea, but attached to a buoy or the like so that it may be recovered. Also, ligan." I don't know really what the dictionary means...hm...maybe someone here could explain more exactly

I read, that this song is originally an Irish Folk Song. But the Lyrics are English ?! What do you think about that ?

Lagan may refer to the river which runs near or through Belfast, and perhaps to the area around that river. So it may refer to a person living in that area or coming from that area..
And I still can't find this song on my copy of THOL, has there been an alternative release recently??

Well, there is a remastered Hounds of Love released in the year 2000 or 2001...there are 6 Bonus Tracks on the CD including My lagan Love. But of Course the Song is also on a CD in the This Woman's Work Box-Set. Thank you very much for that explanation ! Now I can sleep well, for I know what "lagan" means

And I still can't find this song on my copy of THOL, has there been an alternative release recently?? There is the 'River Lagan' in Northern Ireland, and then there is the Medievil latin noun lagan which means "goods thrown into the sea with a buoy to be found again".....or recovered debris.

"why?" will you ask.. I'll tell you why: Why has this re-mastered HOL never been brought to my attention? Why were there no advertizing campaigns in the Netherlands? Was it ever on sale here? This is one of those many times I wished I lived somewhere else....

I suspect www.amazon.co.uk would be more cheaper and quicker postage wise than amazon.com.

I love this song. I get some real imagery from it. I see... a man's face made of wind... a woman in a medieval dress... leaves blowing in the wind... and I hear... soft ethereal voices...
Wow. I should join the druids and wander round Stonehenge, I'm such a hippy!
