Follow the Nile Deep to much deeper. The Pyramids sound lonely tonight.
The sands run red In lands of the Pharoahs. Their symmetry gets right inside me.
I cannot stop to comfort them. I'm busy chasing up my demon. I cannot stop to comfort them. I'm busy chasing up my demon. Oh, I'm in love With Egypt.
My Pussy Queen Knows all my secrets. I'll never fall in love again. I drift with dunes. I whisper of the tombs. They offer me Egyptian delights.
She's got me with that feline guise, Got me in those desert eyes. She's got me with that feline guise, Got me in those desert eyes. Oh I'm in love With Egypt.

I pretty much loved this song from first listen. Back in the days of albums, I used to say side two of Never For Ever side two was a Perfect Album Side (you younger viewers will want to ask your parents what that means). In the CD age, I now say Never For Ever is perfect from Egypt onwards.

This is one song where Kate captured my heart fully. Female, feline, mysterious, past lives and eerie truth.
No wonder I was ensnared!

NO ONE has posted about this song? Xanadu and I probably (okay most definitely) have a lot to say about this song. Guys hate it--girls love it. That is a swooping generalisation but seems to be the case.
Question is--do you REALLY WANT to hear what we (the go girls) have to say about this song or are some things better left unsaid? I myself have 2 different interpretations for it, neither of which will make straight men Kate fans happy. Thanks Shee, are we back in form now? I think what is intimidating about this song for some men is the idea of a young woman discovering her own sexuality without it involving a male or female companion. You can consider it in masturbatory way, but it is far more complex than that. The men who enjoy this song, and probably love all of Kate in general, aren't threatened by this type of woman, and in fact, are attracted to her. I think its counterpart would be Sensual World. Many of Kate's songs put forth an idea earlier in her career, and develop further in a later song. ::waiting for Sheila to add her vision::

I'll have to re-listen the song and find some clues for this discovering stuff.. I can see how people might make the conclusion because of the 'Pussy Queen'-reference, but I always thought that was a reference to the fact that the old egyptians revered feline creatures as somewhat god-like. I hate to think that our heroine has sanddunes downthere... I can't believe I actually wrote that

I looked but could not find the original lyrics. It would have been helpful. I do believe originally this song was just a tribute to the beauty of Egypt but then the lyrics got changed to be more about female sexuality (just like the Sensual World as I believe Zan mentioned) Follow the Nile Deep to much deeper. The Pyramids sound lonely tonight. running deep into her own female cycle. The pyramids I do believe are a phallic symbol hereThe sands run red menstration? In lands of the Pharoahs. Their symmetry gets right inside me. I don't know about other women but I get my horniest when it's that time of the month. This line always conjures up a dirty and funny picture to me. But despite what men may want for her....I cannot stop to comfort them. I'm busy chasing up my demon. I cannot stop to comfort them. I'm busy chasing up my demon. Oh, I'm in love With Egypt. as I said I do believe this song is really about Egypt, but that the country also symbolizes her femininity. My Pussy Queen yes cats are worshipped in Egypt, but, oh come on, Kate would NOT do this obvious a pun unintentionally!Knows all my secrets. I'll never fall in love again. I can REALLY relate to this after Saturday night. As long as HE got off, right? I realy like this guy but am training myself not to, time, sigh, and time again.I drift with dunes. I whisper of the tombs. perhaps those deepp caverns men don't find? Take figuatively or literally I can see both angles...They offer me Egyptian delights. She's got me with that feline guise, Got me in those desert eyes. She's got me with that feline guise, Got me in those desert eyes. Oh I'm in love With Egypt. Now I believe someone suggested a lesbian interpretaion, which I can see, but I think it's more about "you want it done right, do it yourself" or "ain't no one gonna treat you like a princess unless you treat yourself like one" sort of thing. But it's more the music that makes me think this (oh yeah and the fact I blasted this on my headphones on my first acid trip--no I don't do acid anymore...) With the aaahh ahhhh aahh ahhh it builds up like sex until it climaxes into this wonderful, self discovery. The "sex" seems very solitary, the song seems phyically dark and alone, but not exactly lonely. The male symbols are lonely, but I don't get the vibe Kate is Okay there is my crackpot interpretation. The reason I originally said that men don't like this song is because when we did the Kate Rate of this album this song got SLAMMED to the ground in the first round! We obviously have a different group of men here. I DEMAND A RECOUNT ON NEVER FOR EVER! hee hee.

Confession: I'm the type of finds a sexual interpretation for nearly everything, including "The Family Circus". However, even I just think of that religious-sounding chanting as just religious-sounding chanting.
To quote from Sandman: "They say when you dream about flying, it means you're dreaming about having sex." "Oh? Then what does it mean when you dream about having sex?"

I'm not sure how the pyramids are shaped over there in the windy city, but I thought they were more, well... pyramid shaped.. obelisks are phallic I could go as far as that....
What could be more apt is the fact that pyramids hide tressures inside (ovary?) and that would fit better with feeling some urge from the lower regions... I admit that the reference to red sands in combination with other references could be explained as a sexual one, but.... I tend to keep away from reading sexual references in lyrics, not out of prudeness but sometimes a cigar is just that: a cigar.

Hey, you've been out-perverted by a GIRL!! Should I be ashamed or should you? (oh that's a WHOLE OTHER TOPIC!) But I really get turned on by the chanting and always, even as a teenage virgin, took it the sexual way. And I SWEAR TO (WHATEVER) GOD I DID NOT INTEND THIS TO BE MY 69TH POST!! ;D
