Down in the cellar You're getting into making poison You slipped some on the side Into my glass of wine And I don't want any coffee-homeground
Offer me a chocolate No thank you, spoil my diet, know your game But tell me just how come They smell of bitter almonds? It's a no-no to your coffee homeground
Pictures of Crippin Lipstick-smeared Torn wallpaper Have the walls got ears here?
Well, you won't get me with your Belladonna In the coffee And you won't get me with your aresenic In the pot of tea And you won't put me in a six-foot plot With your hemlock On the rocks
Where are the plumbers Who went a-missing here on Monday? There was a tall man With his companion And I bet you gave them coffee-homeground
Maybe you're lonely And only want a little company But keep your recipes For the rats to eat And may they rest in peace with coffee homeground
Pictures of Crippin Lipstick-smeared Torn wallpaper Have the walls got ears here?
Won't get me with your Belladonna In the coffee And you won't get me with your aresenic In the pot of tea And you won't put me in a six-foot plot With your hemlock On the rocks
With your hemlock on the rocks "Noch ein Glas, mein Liebchen?" With your hemlock on the rocks With your hemlock on the rocks "Es schmeckt wunderbahr!" With your hemlock on the rocks [fade out]

This song probably create the best image in my head than any others. I can see a completely wooden cellar (wooden floor, wooden ceiling, benches, etc) with no paint and loads of pots & pans all over the place but it comes into my head very cartoon like. Has anyone seen 'The Little Mermaid'? Like the kitchen where the chef is trying to cook the crab. It's amazing the picture I get.

I see it pretty vividly too! I can see the torn wallpaper all old and yellowed with a brown vertical flower pattern. And yes lots of wood everywhere! But I see it taking place in the living room not the kitchen. I got the Monty Python DVD set for Christmas and I noticed in one of the sketches they make reference to Crippin. "Yes but they said Crippin was insane" "Crippin WAS insane" "Oh, well there you have it then."

This is a very good Song. That gives me the creeps The Chorus is odd but also very recognisable. I see a young maid in a cellar who is preparing for suicide...because I hear the German words which mean, that she will maybe (?) die... More of that German stuff hehe.

What are the German words and what do they mean? I always wondered that.

Noch ein Glas mein Liebchen ? = Another glass my dear ?/ Do you want one glass more my dear ? Es schmeckt wunderbar ! = It tastes wonderful ! Dann sterb ich wohl = Then maybe I will die
The last sentence was difficult to translate...but I think it's correct !

My keyboard does not have the ability to put the dots on top of the "o" but I did know it should be done. I did read your Hello Earth post but I already knew what that German meant.

Oh my God ! Nina Hagen This "person" has a very odd style of writing lyrics ;D By the Way: Instead of wunderbar you could also say wundervoll....that sounds a bit more English. I hope, you will one day speak German...I wish you all the best.

I just got Lionheart and I am completely obsessed about this song. It's so awesome! So I was wondering, has Kate ever performed this live? That would be so interesting to watch.

It's been a long time since 1979 Tour of Life, but as I recall she didn't perform Coffe Homeground in her set. Infact, it was one of only a few songs from TKI & LH that she didn't do.. LH is generally considered to be her weakest album, but it's still a major treat. Symphony in Blue was the track that first turned me into something of a Kate obsessive. Enjoy..
