Failed I got 34 out of 35 on the questions (and you only need 30 to pass) I failed on the damn hazard perception test which I need to figure out how it works. I plan to put straight in for it again though cos there's about a 2 week waiting list. Only thing is, it's £20 a time

Better luck next time Lori.
I'm glad I took my test in 1980 before all these theory exams. Sounds like a lot of work to me!

Sorry, I'm lost here. Are these tests something like finals or SAT's are ACT's here? I'm sorry you had some bad luck on your exam Lori... but you did well on the first part, that's a good sign. We'll all be pulling for you next time!

Thanks Zan! And by the way, it's the theory part of my driving test Wow, seems pretty rough there just to get your driving license. How does it work over there? Over here, at about 16, you take one semester in high school or pay for 6 week driving lessons. Apply for a permit during that time, then when your finished, take a written and driving test. There are about 36 questions on the test, you need at least 30 to past the first time and 33 each time you renew and the test is required. In Illinois it seemed like a breeze. It's a little more trouble in California, and the license takes forever to arrive! Do you have to be older to take the driving test there? Personally, I think you should have to be 18 or older and out of high school. There are a whole lot of issues that could be avoided if 16-year olds couldn't drive.

Zan, I bet England has more restrictions on older drivers as well. The AARP (American Association for Retired Persons) lobby is very strong here. You can literally be blind and paralyzed and keep your liscence in the U.S.. I've driven behind big land yacht's where all I could see were knuckles and a perptetual left turn signal.

We first need to take our theory test. This consists of: * 35 questions and you need to get at least 30 to pass. * the hazard perception test. This is 15 video clips videoed from the drivers view point. 14 of the clips contain 1 major hazard and 1 contains 2. As soon as you spot a hazard developing you click the mouse button. You get 5, 4, 3, 2, 1 or 0 points for each clip depending on how quick you react to the hazard. You need at least 44 points out of a possible 75 for this. It sounds easy but no-one seems to fully understand exactly WHEN you click. You need to pass both parts of the test at the same sitting to pass the theory test. You have 2 years after passing your theory to pass your practical driving test otherwise it's no longer valid and you must retake the theory. Sux!!!

Oh great, just what we need - another driver cluttering up the Roads! Seriously, well done. As I'm just a tiny bit older than you, I didn't have to take a theory test either. "weren't no such thing in ma day lass, thee knows"
When do you go out on the driving part of the Test? I passed by setting off thinking "I'll never get through this, I'll just try not to make an idiot of myself" It took the pressure off.
All the luck,
