Premise: Post a word. Anyone may respond with the correct definition. That person then must post a new word. I'll start:
Svengali..

Svengali: "A person who, with evil intent, tries to persuade another to do what is desired." (dictionary.com ) Derived from the character in the George Du Maurier novel "Trilby" Svengali was a manipulative malficient hypnotist. I don't think so. ;D I think people should look things up. Without researching, I believe a haberdashery is a shop where hats are sold. (in the US) however after looking it up it also is for men's clothing and accessories) word (how urban ): Altruist (since we're doing handles, hopefully Xanadu will post hers )

I think I know the answer to this one! correct me if I'm wrong, but I think it means one who is generally selfless. One of the titles in one of my old books was "Benevolent Altruism." So, yeah. Am I right?

Alright. That sounds made up. ;D Besides it's called "word" of the day...word? It's hard to stump me on etymology, but this sounds like a botanical genus and species. When it is my turn though, I'll refrain from biological terms such as endoplasmicreticulum. (sometimes two words)

I was kind of right. This is a hydroponic form of pot! J/K, that would be elodeo cannabis. Is it a medicinal hydroponic herb? 'Elodea' is actually the correct spelling right? Word: Perspicuity

Word: PerspicuityYeah, 'Elodea' is correct... I shouldn't have spelled that incorrectly 'cause this is my Biology investigation Elodea Canadensis is 'Canadian Pondweed' - you were close enough so I'll give you it No idea about perspicuity though... something to do with perspective?

What are you saying, Al? If you don't know a word then it must be made up? I wasn't aware of your power over the English language. Just kidding Feel the love I believe it is an old English word, but I swear it is not made up. Hint: it means exactly the opposite of what it may sound like it means.

OMFG you are a pervert. ;D Technically you are right. It sounds like you've read the review by Roger Ebert of the film "I am Curious, Yellow" That is actually where I saw it first (years ago) And it was used in the context you posted. I have no idea what Kiffen means.
