I would certainly endorse the purchase of this film on DVD. Not only is it entertaining, but could serve as reference material.

Questions for thought.....
If you knew the true purpose and origin of all life would that be enough?
Which is more important - reason or emotion?
Is this all there is, or does nirvana await on a spirtual plane?
I have much to say here. But I will await some response, whether you've read this thread or seen the aforementioned suggested movie or not. Also, please see if you can show a correlation in these three questions.

Hmm, 3 simple questions that could stimulate answers of 300,000 words or at least a triple concept album with a multiple gate fold out cover and artwork by Roger Dean, available in limited edition coloured vinyl.. Questions for thought..... If you knew the true purpose and origin of all life would that be enough? It would be the start of a personal existence on a higher plane. But being fully aware does not mean that you would automatically start to make a difference in the lives of everyone or the Universe around you. This would require the will or desire to do so. And surely with this extraordinary insight one would wish to.
The ultimate knowledge would make any individual a prophet but may not give them the charisma or strength to tackle vested interests. The World deals very harshly with Prophets, even the real ones..To exist at a brute mechanical level, reason may be enough (if you add in instinct - which is absent from your choices). To rise above the pure mechanics of just staying alive, to give one's life colour or meaning or to address aspiration, surely requires emotion also?
Simplistic I know, but reason is the start and emotion is where you go after that.. We may reason that it does and we may speculate at an intellectual level what nirvana might be. But does that mean we would aspire to it? Emotion gives desire surely? Emotion gives us the tools to seek Nirvana in the plane that we DO occupy, to represent it in our Cultures through art etc. But also emotion MAY give us the desire to go straight to the next or spiritual plane without properly dealing with this one. Step forward the suicide bomber, whose 7 virgin BS is the reasoned or intellectual tool of someone else.. And what is "someone else's" motive - is it reasoned or emotional?I tried..

Thanks for the response Adey. Several recent events have brought these questions to mind. A new found interest in quantum physics - the challenges to world peace and a new moral mandate - and aforemented media events that augment my own philosophy. Hmm, 3 simple questions that could stimulate answers of 300,000 words At least. I know for a fact that more exercize and a healthier diet will prolong my life. Yet this knowledge only has proportional impact on my reasoning when it manifests itself in my emotional well-being. That higher plane or nirvana is more readily achieved through Godiva chocolate, or sex, or wine (you get the picture) However, when I feed these urges, my body begins to rewire the matix of synapsis connections to trigger the addictive chemicals, peptids and hormones that produce the desired euphorias. In that regard emotions outweigh my reasoning. The recent election, I think, proves that emotion rules the day. I've often said that the leaders, be they good or evil, will advance their agenda by manipulating the emotions of the masses. Corporate advertizers, politicians and evangelical leaders prefer to push their product via emotion. Their ''reasonable'' arguments seem only there to convince us of an emotional reward. Having the ultimate knowledge, to me, is worthless unless it can be harnessed and sold on an emotional level. This notion varies diametrically to my views as a younger man. Enlightenment was they answer to all the ills. 'Not so. Reality is only what we perceive it to be. Unless we sell our reality door to door (one on one) then the loudest public voice sets the agenda.
Our eyes only record in our minds what we see. The brain centers that fire our emotional responses are symbiotically linked to the input of our senses as filtered by our experiences. Memory it is theorized is a chemical imprint in the tissues of our brain. When we are younger and more vital, these files are more potent and accesible. If this is true, where are our young people headed. This is a round about way of me re-inforcing my view that art and beauty are essential in the rebirth of ideas. Christian orators preach that you must be born again. I believe that there is a fundamental need for renewal. Spirtual energy is, I believe, nothing more than the vibes we all send to each other. We are all a part of the same whole. The tug and struggle is to balance the forces of good and evil to create ultimate peace. We are willing to kill each other to achieve it either here or in the purported hereafter. Religion then becomes a crutch, or worse a hinderance to finding peace in the here and now. Not simplistic at all. The concepts you discuss are complex. Reason is the start. It is the game-plan we form to reach our emotional goals. What is reasonable or real to you may not be the same for me. The reality is however that a slim but increasing majority of fundamentalist practioners are forming the new world order. Well said. Emotional energy is the engine of change. From an extended middle finger to another motorist causing roadrage to a big bang event that has set waves in motion that we can record to this date; subatomic energy is being broadcast to us all. How you atune yourself to this knowledge will be how you find peace or misery (opinion of course ) Quantum physics is not much more that formulating tools and parameters by which to explain the unexplainable. Art and beauty (and by beauty I mean the core belief that their is value in others to be found and appreciated) provide the most effective voice for those who see truth than any other form of communication. It does not make you fat or otherwise physically unfit. What it does do is make you think and make you act. Real artists find truth and spread it. It finds it's way into the heart and soul regardless of bias, race or gender. Just like a station on the radio, I pick you up. So keep on tuning in......

I've been having some new thoughts on this subject of late. Codes are like any language, they can be changed, or modified, so they evolve.
Having read a book entitled "Emergence" the author's name escapes me right now, it seems all of life, infact all of existence emerges from primary states. A system once established creates an enviroment where further systems can establish themselves. Hence life and consciousness are an evolving process, always changing.
A code is but a way of communicating one exsitence to another. Therefore, all existence can be understood through relationships.
Any idea has merit in relation to existing understanding. Our idea of God or the power of creation exists by the way we see it. Modern science is beginning to comprehend there is no objective reality beyond our ability to understand it. The mystery is in our ability to create ways of looking at it.

I've been having some new thoughts on this subject of late. Codes are like any language, they can be changed, or modified, so they evolve. ... it seems all of life, infact all of existence emerges from primary states. That alpha state, the ultimate root of all reality, is the foundation for philosophical or theological thought. A system can only function if it is connected to a receipient. This evolutionary process can advance understanding or become a mutation. The pieces are there, but like a puzzle, if not assembled correctly, you won't see the big picture. Only a universal code can unlock the undersatnding of 'all' existience. Codes, like language, can only be understood by those that seek to learn the limited truth therein. The only universal language is emotion controlled by the subatomic signals that we send to each other. Words can never express truth entirely. Pure thought however may be impossible to achieve. Why? A philosophical idea should only have merit if it advances peace and understanding. Concepts such as justice however make this process complex. Inner peace although can be achieved independant of the turmoil all around. Getting all the parts of the whole together is the goal. Fail to understand reality at your own peril. Adapt or die is the universal code of evolution. I agree. Back to the puzzle analogy: * we may start at different places * we may see segments that others do not * we might have to start over * we will not complete it in the same manner However, if the pieces don't fit, then that's a f*cked up puzzle.

We've talked on several threads lately of being connected. I feel this so much today in light of the earthquake and resulting Tsunami that has taken over 20,000 lives - mostly children - in the past 36 hours. There is a horrific scream, that if you listen, will haunt you. The power of nature and the interdependence of mankind is never more apparent that at this time. It may be easier to ignore it, but it is our obligation to feel the pain and aid in the repair of this rip in our collective conciousness.
Be it the power of prayer, sending good vibes or just being sensitive and responsible to other human beings in need, we have a wound in the body of mankind that needs our attention.
I will explore this concept at a more appropriate time from a philosophical standpoint. I will say this however - I liken our sensitivities to a audio/video receiver. Are you satisfied with hearing only select or weak signals - or should you not desire to have a discreet system that filters out the unnecessary noise while picking up channels from all over the planet. We are ever-more connected. If you do not listen to the signals, we are all a bit less secure. I find that the music, art and culture from all over the world is one of the best ways to build bridges and to promote peace and justice.
Keep these people in your heart. Share and lighten their suffering. Give blood, support your favorite relief agency, but at least don't tune them out.

This thinking Altruest I support.
The disaster in South East Asia shows how vunerable we are as humans. As you say we are all connected and this event affects everyone on some level.
This terrible tragedy has triggered aid agencies into action even though the scale facing them is a daunting one. Any support we can give will help ease the suffering and all of us can do something.
The people of this region are all part of our family, the family of humankind. One day we will appreciate our family more, sharing resources on a scale only dreamed of in science fiction. Until that day we must do what we can.

Hey Al, I thought you might like this extract from Lyall Watson’s book Supernature (1973) as I am sure it relates to your theories of the universe.
In the bush country around Darwin, in northern Australia, there lives a termite that constructs a weirdly shaped nest. Many termites cement fine grains of sand together with saliva and pack it into huge, rock-hard mounds, but this species builds slabs ten feet square and only a few inches thick that are scattered across the outback like enormous tombstones. The fact that every single one of them has long axis oriented exactly along a north-south line gives the insect its name Omitermes meridionalis, the compass termite. Each termitarium is like an iceberg, with most of its structure beneath the surface, and the part above the ground is honeycombed with ventilation shafts that form the air-conditioning plant for the entire fortress. Thousands of workers rush up and down the airshafts, opening and closing them like valves as they labor to keep the temperature in the deeper, brood chambers constant all day long. In the cool of the early mornings they need to take up as much heat as possible, and so the broad side of the mound faces directly into the rising sun. At noon they are more concerned with losing heat, so the mound exposes only its knife-edge to the sun, now directly overhead. Built into every single one of the termite laborers is an awareness of the sun’s movements that leads it to construct its little bit of the mound so that the whole thing relates to the cosmos in a way that expresses the needs of the society. The termitarium is literally shaped by cosmic forces.
I believe that astrology arose in this way: that an awareness of cosmic forces predisposed man to certain ideas and patterns, and that, despite the fact that each contributing astrologer could only see his little bit of the structure, the final synthesis took on a natural and relevant form.
I know that this sounds mystic, but there are good scientific grounds for my belief. As chemistry was discovering that all life was built up of the same few basic substances, physics was investigating the substances themselves and discovering that fundamental particles of matter all behave in the same way. They all have a wave motion. We know that information, whether it is a sound signal or an electromagnetic impulse such as light, travels in waves as well and that an organism receiving information is itself vibrant with wave patterns. If two waves of different frequencies are superimposed, there will be points along their path where the two touch, where they both peak together and interfere with each other. This interference is called a beat, and a number of beats in a regular sequence produces a rhythm. Everything in the cosmos dances to these rhythms

I have seen a documentary on these insects before. At the time I did not atribute their behavior to anything more than instinct. But, the wave theory has little to disagree with. The physics would still be mysterious. Also, the chain of events would surely involve chemistry and genetics. The real question is when does an organism reach the point of self awareness?
None of this is in conflict with my theory of a Universal code. i.e. subatomic signals that direct the movement and development of the cosmos down to our individual emotions. Keep on tuning in.

You chaps sure are intelligent. I was wondering what you thought of Goro Adachi? Goro Adachi is, without doubt, a creative genius. However, that being said, I cannot endorse his conclusions nor his methodology. He starts from a place, parenthetically paranoia and fantasy, that I can not find basis for continued exploration. For entertainment and escapism, yeah; but for serious thought, no....to wit - Arnold Schartzenner as the 3rd Anti-Christ....puh-leez.

No, I haven't seen the film. I don't go to the cinema very often - but even so I haven't seen it advertised here in the UK. I'll look out for it, but it might be a DVD job for me.. Start looking. ;D
