Last week's playlist revolved around how visual and theatrical elements enhanced the music of Kate Bush. With that in mind as I was driving this week, I noticed my surroundings. It was not only Kate that I was listening to. As a matter of fact it was a song by Tracy Chapman that spawned the idea for this week's list. As tribute to the inspiration; I've included her song in this week's rotation as a *bonus track. It not only fits the theme; it is a great complementary contrast to Kate. If you have a chance to 'get mobile' with the music this week; you will hopefully experience the sensual world we are a part of. Regardless if you are walking, or on a bike or in your car; imagine your landscape as a documentary in progress. These songs 'travel well', but make sure you do this as a leisurely activity. Don't attempt this on the way to work or school. Whether your environment is urban or rural; try to experience the spirtual and the material world that surrounds us as you listen to these selections: 1) 'The Sensual World' from "The Sensual World" 2) 'This Woman's Work' ditto *) 'Mountain O' Things' (from "Tracy Chapman" '98) 3) 'Delius' (Song of Summer) from "Never for Ever" 4) 'Kite' from "The Kick Inside" 5) 'Moments of Pleasure' from "The Red Shoes" Please let me know if this works as well for you as it did for me.

In case you noticed some change to the playlist, I modified it after taking a test drive with the it. How could I have left off "Moments of Pleasure"?! Anyway the list is still 5 Kate songs plus one bonus. By the way, this is one of my better themes. (I was blubbering like a big girlie-man). The rotation starts and ends like a worship service to me. I'm not that religious, but I'm very spirtual. That's O.K. though; I'm secure with my masculinity and the fate of my soul. Any guy reading this who hasn't been in touch with the feminine perspective, is missing half of life's equation. I've found Kate Bush's eloquent representation of womankind to be the paradigm.

By the way, this is one of my better themes. (I was blubbering like a big girlie-man). The rotation starts and ends like a worship service to me. It's one of the best feelings when songs can affect you this way. As I don't have a form of "mobile" transport in which to listen to this playlist, I'm going to listen to the songs before going out for a walk, then hopefully they'll play in my mind as I'm enjoying the sensual worl around me Will that count? I'm glad you had a chance to get in touch with your feminine side ;D I shall see if I can do the same after hearing the songs

Yes that will certainly count. Setting the tone before your trip should have a similar effect. Good luck.

I'd like to add a comment on one of the selections- "Delius, A Song of Summer"
Kate Bush appararently had seen a film about Fredrick Delius on BBC when she was about ten years old. It must have made quite an impression.
During his waning years Delius remembered his favorite retreat thusly..."White butterflies flitting from petal to petal, and golden brown bees murmuring in the warm, quivering summer air." Kate captures this feeling in her tribute.
It was August's post about the poetry of Teasdale that prompted me to add this sidebar. It adds further to the sensual experience and enlightenment of the playlist.
FYI...That film "Delius, A Song of Summer" is now available for purchase. Also you may find the classical music of Delius online.
"Go out into the fields, listen to the music of nature and forget the immortals"......."Ter-te ta...have you got that? now sing it" Delius

Lori, Slip off your 'wellios' and be a kite! Seriously, please try to listen to the playlist and let me know how you felt about it.

It was an absolutely beautiful day for my walk! Very sunny and warm with a slight breeze, the perfect weather for the playlist. I did, indeed, listen to it before I left and made sure I sang them in my mind in the correct order. "The Sensual World" really did make me look around and feel much more at one with nature than usual. I live in the countryside and the trees, plants, insects and birds looked beautiful today. As I was not directly listning to the music, I was able to "extend" the fantastic "Delius" (I've always felt it was a little too short) and I think this is my favourite of this week's playlist. It really captured the atmosphere which surrounded me. At the part at the end where you can hear flies buzzing, I actually walked past a bee so the sound effect seemed very real! "Moments Of Pleasure" is such a beautiful song and was extremely relaxing. I extended this too so that the "instrumental" version fit onto the end as this is equally beautiful. I'm not surprised you were so moved by this playlist; it really made me pleased to "live in the sensual world" (apart from the near car crash I saw during "MOP" but that's another story!) (I'll try to download the Tracey Chapman track later, but I'm not a big fan of hers unfortunately!) When I came home, I was inspired enough to sit down at the piano and play some music myself. I hope other people take the time to listen to the playlist this week because, as alt' said, it's very moving and inspirational

Thanks for the endorsement. I'm glad you enjoyed the selections. I'm sure I speak for others in saying, don't worry about the length of the posts. Your perspective is worth hearing. Tracey Chapman is so opposite of Kate Bush; but there in lies the contrast and the complement. A few of her songs have very abrupt messages. Her voice has so much character and feeling though. Try this one song of hers. It fits so well amongst the Kate Bush songs on the list.

Oh yeah, FYI..There is a tribute album of the music of Kate Bush, Tracy Chapman and Joni Mitchell (released July 2001) by various artists. I hear it's poor quality. Has anyone else heard this CD? ("Take 3 Girl's" I think is the name of it.

I get the feeling you are not happy with me Altruest. I`m going to add my comments here though if you don`t mind. Kate`s music and voice always wash me away into a sea of love and listening to this play list, for me, accentuates a feeling of oneness with all things at all times, an experience of loss (of self ) and gain ( of SELF ) all at once. This is how it connects for me: 1) THE SENSUAL WORLD of 2) THIS WOMAN`S WORK puts me on a 3) MOUNTAIN O THINGS where 4) DELIUS takes me up in a 5) KITE for 6) MOMENTS OF PLEASURE. Oh Kate, you enchantress! This is how it makes me feel!

MT, You and I may not see eye to eye one some things, but don't read anything into that. Your opinion is as valid to you as mine is to me. Don't worry, be happy.
