Some more songs that mean a lot to me, if anyone's interested: Joanna Newsom - Sweet Esme or Untitledwww.youtube.com/watch?v=sL0T1yUYkbsThis is a song I often listen to when I am very happy. I think it's supposed to be a bit of a song wishing a child well in life, but it relates to all kinds of love for me. And I love the lyrics - "The phantom of love moves among us at will and each phantom limb lost has got an angel oh so confused, like the wagging ghost tail of a bulldog - kindness, kindness prevails!"This has a music box quality to it. And an oriental undercurrent...Such a lovely melody that is just this side of cloying but 'infectious' would be closer. And the high pitched voice pierces right through me. I guess I've always been attracted to that range the most. That would be indeed be my description of profound. This is one of my favorite videos. The Royal color dress and the fiery backdrop create such a vicariously arousing visual to accompany the duplicitous references. Yeah a wedding might be necessary after a bit of this 'mmm yes' stuff. Well it is my favorite. Definitely belongs in the thrill category, It will get a brand new look from me. And yes that idea will surely help. But you know that I have always loved her music all the way back to the "Sugarcubes" she is still one of my favorites. I guess she has pushed the envelope so progressively further that on first impression "Vespertine" was kind of like how I felt about Loreena McKennett's last album...too similar to the last ones. Let me listen some more and I will comment later. (BTW - I love the colors in your posts, if you know what I mean EDIT: I love to listen to Bjork's free range vocals with the strings and orchestration. Her music is unlike anyone else's. "One hand allows the other, so much and me"... let's

There is an oriental undercurrent, isn't there? I see that in Only Skin, as well, in the part where she sings about missing someone and spiders drowning down the drain and hanging from the cherry trees. I think it's quite a profound song. Mine too. The natural imagery is so beautiful, and Kate's dancing is enchanting. That's part of the reason I chose that song. I was kidding about you finding Vespertine less tedious... ;D Though I do like it a lot, and find it quite a good progression from her past work. I'm glad you enjoyed it anyway...

I also figured out what it was reminding me of...a slower prettier melody with similarities to Blonde's "Heart of Glass" You may have to dig for the song. I'll find it if you'd like. I wish I could sing - and I'd love to hear your voice. In the 'Sensual World' Videos (interview) she totally glosses over the more amourous connotations... [/quote] I really did.

And my voice is relatively melodic. Yes I saw that. You should listen to the album again... I could too, and we could do that at the same time.

Yes to what? Listening to Vespertine? Oh and I'm glad you picked up on the colors. Hearing your sweet voice. and listening to anything together. Vespertine would be a good place to start. I really have not given it a chance... The colors are so considerate.

Do you want to say we could listen to it tonight at ten for you, eleven for me? That would be so nice.

Off line, I think... this computer doesn't handle doing two things at once very well. But I am correct in that Nashville is an hour behind me, right? What time is it for you?

It's such a quiet album, and almost a shy one, always keeping some of its power hidden, but I do find it so beautiful. Maybe we should schedule more times when we listen to the same music together, although far away. ;D

It's such a quiet album, and almost a shy one, always keeping some of its power hidden, but I do find it so beautiful. Well, it's like this. I must have loaned my copy out, so I could not listen all the way through. I heard 'Hidden Place and 'Pagan Poetry' - my two favorites from the album. And then I bought a new copy today and played the hell out of it. ;D And yes, in the new context it did grow on me. We were discussing Joanna Newsome's video having a music box quality. It is coincidental that the instrumental on 'Vespertine' is even more so. The lyrics are the spine for so much of her music. She seems to want the idea in the forefront and then structure the music and the melody around that. I believe this will grow on me. But 'Isobel', 'Hyperballad' and 'Bachelorette' are going to be hard to top. And I have most of her videos too. (I love the straight jacket, and scissors imagery in the doll video) Any way I have this premonition that "I know that something good is gonna happen" Yes...

Yes, there are music boxes used on Frosti and Pagan Poetry and Sun In My Mouth, I think. I'm so glad you enjoyed it. I love that through our connection, it could grow on you, and we could both be exposed to many different creative influences that we might not have found otherwise. I do love Isobel and Bachelorette and Hyperballad... but I've come to find Pagan Poetry and Unison just as powerful, in time. And I sort of think of Aurora as a continuation of the Isobel song cycle thing... Oh and I find the lyrics the spine of much of her music as well. I think Bjork is a very good songwriter.
