Zan, I forgot to mention - you describe the cool and calculated nature of these criminals. To me, that strengthens the comparison to politicians.
I'll admit there are a few holes in my theory, but I get strong vibes about my submittal. The beauty is that good lyrics can have different meanings on several levels. Steely Dan are masters of this accomplishment - as is Kate Bush. Neither tend to offer their own interpretations; leaving the mystery and wonder to the listener to discover for themselves.

Oh, I think you have a solid theory, no holes that I can see yet. Perhaps mine is the more obvious interpretation for the non-political. But I think the actually go together well. The allegory of the political system, I like it. Speaking of allegory, Al...

The allegory of the political system, I like it. Speaking of allegory, Al... Drat, you're always one step ahead of me. Or am I just a step behind? ;D Adey, "End of the Innocence " is one of my all time favorite songs. I can't really claim to be a Henly fan though Kind of the same with Bruce Hornsby ("The Way it Is" ) and Mark Cohn ("True Companion" "Strangers in a Car" and "Walk on Water" ) I love these songs and their lyrics, but, as a whole; I'm not enamoured with these artists otherwise.

Cagney and Lacey... you have to be joking If you don't know who Humphrey Bogart and James Cagney are... you have been "under a rock" and should come back after thoroughly searching the IMDB before more discussion. You are really charming when you show off your vast knowledge. I´m sorry that my ignorance has offended you. Shall I go back to my rock then? (Although I think both of these men have been ´under a rock´ a lot longer than I, in the meantime)! .......... amazing...........

I would just like to say that my misinterpretation of Cagney was down to ignorance and not studying the lyrics of the song at the time of when i first heard it.

A few follow on points.
Dont be offended Banshee! Any reponse is better than being ignored.
Err, what is the IMDB that people are referring to.
AT, its going to take me a while to get my head around your monetary theory. Its either brilliant, or it confirms my own theory that too much analysis reveals things the artist never intended! Perhaps maybe a bit of both. But I do thank you for it, also you too Xan. I am sorry that I can't give the immediate response it deserves. If I may paraphrase, like Peter Gabriel, you guys open the windows.... and let the wierdness in.
[goes away thinking] "now if Thatcher deregulated the money markets in 1980 and KB released the Dreaming in '81, that must mean, uh huh, yes, right I see...

"You must be joking. " "Under a rock" are just terms I used to be sarcastic. But you have been unnecessarily rude, considering I would have immediately appologized for any offense taken. However... considering this is now posted.

I assumed this is what you meant, and not ignorance. I just thought that a reference from Kate to an American 80's TV show was really far more crazy than to classic film stars.

We're all good people here. Benefit of the doubt and reading the emoticons are essential, at least 'til we know each other better. I appreciate the effort paul! No harm was meant, 'cos I do know the players here. ;D
